Memory Compactor monitors MEMORY.md file size and warns Claude when it grows beyond a configurable line threshold (default 30 lines), since only the first 200 lines are read by Claude Code's auto-memory system. It automatically fires a PostToolUse hook after Write or Edit operations to memory directories, extracting the file path and injecting a compaction warning into Claude's context when the threshold is exceeded.
